Delhi University (DU) has announced a fee increase for all first-year students enrolled in undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and PhD programs starting from the 2024-2025 academic session. This change also applies to international students seeking admission.
For PhD students, the revised fee structure introduces a significant 60.22% increase, raising the total fees from Rs 4,450 to Rs 7,130. The new fee structure, effective from the academic year beginning in August, was approved by Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh in June. Singh explained to indianexpress.com that this annual fee hike of 5-6% is a standard adjustment to address inflation.
A senior official at the Faculty of Technology confirmed to PTI that this fee hike currently affects only first-year students, as per university guidelines.
Specific Changes in the DU Fee Structure
- BTech Students: The course fee for first-year BTech students has been raised by 3.70%, from Rs 2.16 lakh to Rs 2.24 lakh.
- Removal of DUSU Contribution: The contribution to the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) has been removed from the fee structure for BTech, LLB, and MBA programs.
- Increased DUSU Contribution for Other Courses: For other UG and PG courses, the DUSU contribution has been increased from Rs 20 to Rs 40.
These adjustments in the fee structure aim to address the financial requirements of the university while maintaining its operational standards. The changes reflect the institution’s efforts to manage inflationary pressures and ensure the sustainability of its programs.
