The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) as elective subjects for classes 8 to 12, starting from the 2024-25 academic session. This move aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the rapidly evolving technological landscape.The AI and ML courses will cover a wide range of topics, including the fundamentals of AI, machine learning algorithms, neural networks, natural language processing, and computer vision. Students will also learn about the ethical implications of AI and its applications in various fields such as healthcare, finance, and smart cities.The decision to introduce these courses was made in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes the importance of integrating emerging technologies into the curriculum.  The CBSE has collaborated with leading tech companies and educational institutions to develop the course content and provide teacher training programs to ensure effective implementation.”By introducing AI and ML courses, we aim to nurture a generation of tech-savvy individuals who can drive innovation and contribute to the growth of the digital economy,” said Manoj Ahuja, Chairperson of CBSE. “These courses will not only enhance students’ technical skills but also foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.” The CBSE has also announced that it will provide necessary infrastructure support, including access to AI-powered learning platforms and cloud computing resources, to schools across the country.  This initiative is expected to benefit millions of students and help bridge the digital divide in education.
